Individual Education Plan
|
Academic CurriculumJourney High School (JHS) offers a calm, nurturing and highly structured academic environment in a rural setting. Our course of study is in alignment with California standards and frameworks in all core academic areas. Journey High School focuses on building children's strengths academically with a special emphasis on reading, writing, arithmetic, social sciences, science, and general knowledge. JHS also offers elective instruction in visual art, photography, media, computer graphics, music, dance, fitness, culinary arts, art, and career education. Special events include the annual spring prom, seasonal dances, and Diversity Week where an array of performing artists is invited to perform. The school offers a vocational program that allows students to begin learning the responsibilities of employment. We help coordinate vocational testing, career exploration, volunteer opportunities, job placement assistance and referral to work experience programs. In addition our program offers a great variety of community access including field trips, dual-enrollments and full mainstreaming to public school. Personal attention is a hallmark of Journey High School. TLC staff works closely with the district and local schools to implement Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and, if appropriate, reintegrate students into public school. All students receive annual educational testing and speech and language assessments. Progress is demonstrated by improving capacity to manage academic demands, group pace and pressure in the classroom. Improvement determines the student's readiness to return to school in the community. We work very closely with local schools and district personnel to allow transitions, when appropriate, to occur as smoothly and as quickly as possible. |
