FOSTER CARE PROGRAM

TLC Child & Family Services recruits, trains and certifies foster families who open their homes and their hearts to special needs children. Becoming a foster parent can make a tremendous difference in the lives of the over 80,000 foster care children in California, many of whom have been abused and/or neglected, and are in need of the stable, loving home environment that foster parents can provide. These children range in age from newborn to mid-teens and include various ethnic backgrounds including Caucasian, Hispanic, African American, and mixed races.

We understand that the foster parenting process can be overwhelming and, at the same time, be an immensely rewarding experience. We take pride in the services we provide to foster parents and the children in their care. Many of our families have shared their success stories with us.

TLC offers a full range of support services including:

  • 24 hour on call service and crisis intervention
  • Planning, placement, post placement services for foster care children.
  • Weekly or bi-weekly home visits and counseling
  • Parent groups for training and support
  • Generous payments to foster care parents

Services also may include family counseling, development of community resources, treatment and educational planning and individual child assessment. In addition, TLC has a regional office in Mendocino County that provides foster care and adoption services as well as an Emergency Children's Shelter.

Rolf Van Leeuwen, MSW is the Regional Director for adoption and foster care services.
