Residential Teens Volunteer
We need caring adults who want to make a difference in a teenager's life. We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities with varying levels of commitment.
- Could you see yourself as a MENTOR for a young man or woman? This person is willing to make a long-term, consistent commitment to mentor or sponsor one of our teens. This might be simply taking a young person to dinner, movie or an activity on a regular basis or just being available for phone contact during the week. For those mentors who have experience with addiction and 12-step, sponsoring and guiding a teen through the step program would be ideal.
- Would you be willing to be a GUEST SPEAKER and share a part of your life story to a small group of teens at TLC? Teens learn much from sharing experiences. Perhaps you would like to offer a one-time tour of your place of business.
- Could you allow a teen to APPRENTICE in your place of business to gain work experience? In our apprenticeship program, teens volunteer their time in your place of business for as little as two hours per week or more, as agreed upon by business owner and TLC staff. This valuable experience exposes teens to potential career opportunities, good work skills and habits and increases their self-esteem. Our teens have expressed interest in the following vocations:
| Auto Body, Mechanics |
Child Care |
Fashion/Retail |
| The Arts-music, visual |
Painting |
Landscaping |
| Graphic Design |
Real Estate |
Health Care |

Interested volunteers will be interviewed and have an opportunity to tour our facility. For those volunteers interested in mentoring or transporting teens to various activities, the volunteer must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Child Abuse Reference Check (CAIC) background clearance and submit to a drug and alcohol screening. A valid California driver's license with two years experience driving and clean driving record required. TLC staff provides ongoing training.
